Learning things in GR

I enjoy eating in as long as I can eat with and cook for others. I've really been enjoying my role as "housekeeper/wife" at Annie's house. I'm comfortable and relaxed here, and I feel as though I can make myself useful in exchange for staying here without rent. And without having to pay rent, I can live off from the Social Security I'm receiving and a few subbing gigs here and there, as I make my way through September.

I sold my car today, so I only have my bicycle until I find something else. I'm glad to have sold it to the daughter of a friend who really needed it. And even though it has 240,000 miles on it, I'm sure she will get lots of use out of it. I'm shopping for an SUV or van, something I can sleep in, if necessary, so I don't end up sleeping sitting up as I did on my last trip to Ithaca. I'm learning how nice it is to have a home for Remy to stay at while I go out and do things. He always jumps up and down with joy when I return, but I think all in all it's much nicer for him to stay and relax than to go into stressful situations with me, in and out of the car, walking, walking, walking.

Remy has been adjusting to life with others at Annie's house, although everyone is still wary to have substantial footwear on, lest he bite feet. Trying to break him of this will require constant vigilance on my part. I have to rethink how I will carry treats with me, and how I will refocus on him so that I can reward him before he actually goes after someone's feet, but as  he is distracted from doing so. We also have to deal with a small flea problem, meaning that I now need to be aware of vacuuming and placing diatomaceous earth on a regular basis until there is a freeze. Of course, if/when we head south again, we'll probably have to continue to deal with them.

In fact, I thought I would go check out Bradenton, FL, sometime around the end of September, after I vote, but I just got word from friend Rick of a nice-looking place on St Helena Island in South Carolina, so I'll go there and check that out instead, that is if he manages to get the place. He's waiting to hear from a rental agent. I also sent in a resume for a church accompanying job in Fredricksburg, VA, and I got an email that they received it. I don't know what their timeline is, but I'd be willing to check out that area, as well. It's an easy drive to Cary, Columbia, Parkersburg, DC, and even to NY and Boston.

In the meantime, I'm finding searching for a car fairly stressful, especially since I haven't dealt with any time-related kinds of stress for several months. I realize quite vividly how much I don't want to go back to running from one place to another in order to make a mortgage payment. But I need to get myself into some sort of practices and patterns in order to accomplish things I really do want to do: act, write, compose, help and advise people, perform ceremonies.

West Michigan is beautiful this time of year. I haven't made it to Lake Michigan yet, but I plan to soon. Biking in this season is the best. Being able to sub at a couple of my old jobs means I get to see lots of my friends. Kathleen came through her back surgery today really well, and though I haven't seen her yet, I'm told she's beginning her recovery.

I'm in a state of joy. I will see Alice and David tomorrow. I am staying with a great friend and seeing others. I have a southern place to go to where I may spend most of the winter. I have the freedom to come and go. I love my life.
